GONZALES CANYON, TORREY PINES LOOP

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2020 @ 8:00AM

Gonzales Canyon is named for the landowner, Levi Gonzales, who, after emigrating from Portugal, constructed an adobe and planted a variety of crops in the late 1800s. This is a lovely hike, somewhat challenging on the descent but easier on the ascent out of the canyon.

MASKS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING PLEASE

More information:

Distance: 4.3 miles

Rated: Moderate, with steep descent to canyon floor, cobbles, and soft sand in places.

Please sign up on web site

Dogs on leash allowed

Bring a hat, sunscreen, POLES and water

Bring a chair and snack and  visit after the hike

Facilities

  •  From I-5, exit east on Del Mar Heights Road for 1.4 miles, then left on Lansdale Drive. After 0.1 mile, turn left to Torrey Pines Highland (public) Park and park near the dog park park by the bathrooms. There is a two-hour parking limit.
  • I am not sure how strongly it is enforced. If you prefer you could go past the entrance, to the first street on the right, and park in the residential neighborhood.
