HIKE/WALK - SDSU Exploration
Mark Fisher has volunteered to guide us around the SDSU campus during semester break. This approximate 4-mile walk will encompass most of the campus. The campus will be on winter break, so it should be fairly quiet and easy to get around. We will be seeing all of the campus highlights, including: the Student Union, Underground Transit Stations, Viejas Arena, Alumni Center, Aquaplex, Tony Gwynn Stadium, Recreation Center, Performing Arts District, Hepner Hall, Hardy Tower, The Mediterranean Garden, SDSU Bookstore and the University Library.
Participants will likely meet for lunch at Eureka at the end of the tour. Any walking shoe is OK but bring water. Dress in layers. Rain cancels.
Parking for the SDSU campus tour will be at the South Campus Plaza Parking Structure, which is located at 5850 Lindo Paseo. From Interstate 8 Rockers should take College Avenue south to Lindo Paseo. Turn right on Lindo Paseo (where the Trader Joe’s grocery store is located in the large apartment complex on the right). Immediately behind the grocery store is a large Public Parking structure on the right. Turn into the entrance and push the button to take a ticket. Proceed to the second level of the garage, park, and bring the ticket with you for later validation. Meet at the entrance to the Trader Joe’s grocery store. The tour will start at Trader Joe’s and proceed to Aztec Center. After lunch use the ticket and your credit card to pay for the parking at the exit. It is suggested Rockers carpool if possible to split the parking cost. After the validation described below, parking should cost $12 or less.
Lunch will be at Eureka! The restaurant will validate parking, good for 1 hour of free parking, and provide separate checks for the guests. Eureka is a very short walk from the Trader Joe’s grocery store and has great food and drinks!
Besides all of the buildings, Mark will discuss some of the historic sites on the campus and point out various works of art including a number of murals dating back to the campus’ founding in the 1930s.
