Santee Lakes offers a large variety of birds especially once the fall migration has started. There are a number of different duck species as well as shore birds and perching birds. We will be walking the perimeter of 5 lakes because the numerous islands provide extra perching locations. To save paying the entrance fee we will be parking on Lake Canyon Rd. and using the pedestrian entrance. To get to Santee Lakes take Hwy 52 to the Mast Bl exit. Go east on Mast Bl. to Fanita Pkwy. Go north on Fanita Pkwy to Lake Canyon Rd. We will be meeting by the pedestrian entrance. Please bring binoculars and wear good walking shoes.
